Mary E. Cardin

About the Artist

Painting is her lifelong passion. The clarity and subject matter of her work is truly captivating whether it is a watercolor or an oil. She has been a popular professional artist for over 30 years with her works in collections all over the world.

Mary began her artistic career as an oil painter, then became increasingly intrigued with the elusiveness of watercolors. Painting in her favorite medium is a wonderfully challenging game that suits her creative pacce and always requires her greatest effort.

"Those first few strokes on that great expanse of white paper can be quite daunting. I joke about this being the 'fear of white paper' syndrome!"

Mainly self-taught, Cardin had achieved great success as a teacher and demonstator.

Mary loves gardening and designing wearable art. She paints the flowers that she grows and the birds that come to visit the many garden feeders.

A short drive in any direction provides Mary with unlimited vistas to paint. Simply deciding what to choose is sometimes overwhelming!

Mary and Tom Cardin moved to Chama, New Mexico from Southern California in 1995. Always wishing that she could just paint her own 'backyard', coming to the picturesque Rockies was indeed the answer. The quality of light in New Mexico is pure inspiration for her paintings.
